I have experience as an accountant, business person and trainer in this software program. For this reason it is my belief that once the program is set up and running that the relationship with the client should not end. This is due to a number of reasons - the main one being that it takes more than just a couple of hours of instruction to get the package installed and working effectively. This does not mean that the process is an expensive one - rather a time and cost effective one. At an hourly rate of $77.00 (which includes GST), a couple of hours at various appropriate times does not eat into a small business budget! |

I
take the approach that the program can be used (and thus understood)
in stages. The stages often appear in a similar format as the
following:
| 1.
Sales and Invoicing - Accounts Receivable (Debtors) At this stage, the business would have a chart of accounts established, possibly inventory, relevant Remittance Advices, Invoices, Statements and Purchase Orders constructed. You are trained how to enter and print invoices, record customer payments and be able to make enquiries upon customer balances. |
| 2.
Bank Accounts All the payments made to the bank account(s) are entered, and bank reconciliations are now done. You are trained how to enter their particular bank accounts (and other accounts as Barter Card, Visa Card and so forth). If required a special account called a 'Cash Drawer' is set up (which records how much money is in the business's till). Most importantly bank reconciliations are taught. Without bank reconciliations the majority of the data entered into MYOB is without sufficient integrity. |
| 3.
Purchases - Accounts Payable (Creditors) While the chequebook command centre can be used for all payments, the purchases command centre helps business with purchases made on credit. In this stage, you are trained in appropriate usage of this option. |
| 4.
Pending transactions, recurring transactions editing, additional reports
and budgets as required. While some of these options are already set up, further training is given into how these can be used and edited. |
| 5.
Tax time You are given a thorough understanding of what your accountant will require from the MYOB program such that you are likely to reduce your taxation accountants bill. |
Installation and operation of the MYOB package in stages may not suit all clients, however for those businesses new to computer based accounting this may significantly reduce the stress involved. With a 95% client retention rate, I'm confident that the above method is a successful one! |
